The Cantate Choir rehearses on Mondays (3:10-4:15 pm) at the Lower School. They sing at 1 pm Sunday Mass in October and February and on Christmas Eve and Palm Sunday. At the end of the spring semester, the choristers will present a concert for parents and the congregation. Emphasis is given to developing the singing voice, rhythmic literacy, and overall musicianship. The Cantate Choir is led by Monica Spence, Director of Children’s Choirs at St. Thomas Aquinas. They sing monthly at a 9am Sunday Mass as well as Christmas Eve and Palm Sunday. Together with the Cantate Choir, they also present a concert at the end of the school year.
The St. Thomas Choristers have the opportunity to participate in the RSCM (Royal School of Church Music) Voice for Life curriculum. This program teaches music theory, music history, and liturgy and offers medals that choristers can wear with their vestments, signifying completion of each of the program’s five levels.
